Sumitomo Corp. and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais SA’s venture may expand iron ore production by two thirds amid rising demand in Asia. Mr Toru Furihata managing executive officer of Sumitomo said that the venture with Usiminas may be able to boost estimated annual iron ore output to 50 million tonnes.

Metso will supply a lime calcining system to OJSC Novolopetsk Steel’s (NLMK) steel plant in Russia. Equipment delivery will be completed during the fourth quarter of 2011 and the refractory materials during the first quarter of 2012.

Sandvik Mining and Construction has released two new Tier 3 compliant underground coal loaders, the 7tn LS171 and the 10tn LS191. The company has already delivered the first units to Narrabri Coal. Both loaders are powered by a low-emission Tier 3 Caterpillar C7 engine through a Sandvik specified electronic engine management system specifically designed for underground applications.
